IML: 56 Imperial-Neutral Setting

It seems my push button for neutral needs some attention.  

When I try to push the "N" button, sometimes it does not kick the other button out and often, the car will not start in "N".  I have been having to jump the terminals in the engine compartment to get the starter to turn over.  

I have removed the housing holding the buttons and when I re-set the Neutral button, it works for a couple of times, but eventually it fails to operate properly.  But I still have the difficulty in getting the starter to engage with the neutral button pushed in, most of the time.

Any suggestions?
