Re: IML: Hemet, Ca Car Show

Hi All..went to a local car show today in Hemet, CA which is about 15 miles south of where I am (Beaumont, CA). There were about 235 cars there ranging from cars 'underconstruction' to a brand new SVT Dodge Viper! I took my '66 LeBaron and fully expected to be the only Imperial there! One of the vehicles you first notice when entering the church parking lot (where the show was held) was a WWII Half-track and, believe it or not, the owner then went home and brought back his wifes 1966 Imperial Convertible (a pale yellow color) that was in great condition!!! Even more unbelievable was that after talking for a while with the owners, they had never hear of the IML at all BUT, did remember the old IOC way back a bunch of years. Hopefully this gentleman and his wife will become new IIML members very soon..!! Lets face it, anyone who can maintain and drive around (legally) in a WWII Halftrack should feel right at home driving one of our Imperials around town!!!
There were very few MOPAR's represented but a BEAUTIFUL 1973 Challenger won the Best Mopar Award. A few muscle cars were there also, but not as many as I expected. I saw a car I never knew existed before today!...a 1949 Oldsmobile Sedan Delivery! (and it won Best Oldsmobile). Well, I now know that there is another '66 Imperial Convertible within 25 miles of my place, which was a BIG surprise!
Tomorrow (Sunday) is the Annual Picnic for the Southern California Imperial Owners Club down at Laguna Neigral (spelling?) and I will try and take a bunch of photo's while I am there.
Hope you all had great weekends!!
Dan melnik
