Re: IML: Gas Tank Drain

This is especially true if you find sediment in the bottom of the tank, or even if the remaining gas is orange in color. Rinsing it out won't do the trick. You'll be fighting it forever unless you clean it properly and coat the tank.

Jim, just take the tank off , disconect it and dump it examin it , air nossle it dry, and blast it , por 15 it, will look and work for just right if there isnt any electrolisiss on it. Put your clean tank back on and call it good. Jim, also from Portland, owner of 8 1960 imperials since 1974.

Jim....the hardest part is crawling under the car...it's a simple Allen head plug. I forget what size but it's pretty easy to get out.

Subject: IML: Gas Tank Drain

Hi All -

Just finished moving my '60 out of the barn to ready it for it's move back home this coming weekend. A friend has a tilt bed truck (wrecker) and we'll be using it to transport the car the 40 miles back to Portland. However I will need to move it from the street to the garage once it's home. SO I'll will try to get it running on Thurs or Fri. What I want to do is drain the 12 year old gas from the tank and replace it with fresh. The FSM talks about draining the tank, but doesn't mention how to open the drain on the bottom of the tank. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to open the drain without screwing it up?
Thanks in advance -

Jim in OR
