Re: IML: 1960 Imperial Steering Wheels

Joe Machado has a supply of the round wheels for 60 Imperials. Got one from him years ago but I wanted the flat one so I returned the round one.

Keep an eye on Ebay. Every so often one will turn up with a round wheel. We have seen several there the last couple of years. Some of the pictures may have been saved on the OIC web site. In real life I had only seen one car this way. It was a Custom Two Door Southampton Alaskan White with green interior and no options. It even had crank windows. It had a radio, heater, defroster, and clock, but I don't remember if they were extra on Custom or not. Too lazy to go check at the moment.

If you have a 60 parts book, you will see that the round wheels are listed. I have an NOS black frost round wheel I bought from Mitchell's about 20 years ago,

The book Imperial: 1957-1963 has photos of the interior of a 60 Custom with the round wheel. I've never seen photos of one other than those.

I vaguely remember reading a period magazine article saying that "those who prefer the round wheel can order one instead" or something to that effect.

I was just looking at a '60 Crown sedan on E-bay and noticed what appears to be s stock steering wheel on the car except it is round. Mine on the other hand is more rectangular. Where different shaped wheel an option in 1960? I see no mention of it in any of the literature I've looked at.
