I explained most of my beliefs on this in my previous note. The point 
of NOT doing it, is that loosening up debris means that it is carried 
through the system. This should be captured by the filter. Some believe 
that it will clog oil passages. If there is enough of it, it probably 
will.

I am vigilant about what I hear in a running engine. If something 
doesn't sound right, I try to figure out what it is. If something isn't 
getting oil hopefully you should be able to tell before doing any 
damage. I cleaned out the oil pan in the cars that I had which had been 
parked for years. This eliminated a large amount of junk that would 
have been carried through the oil. Whether it would have plugged the 
oil passages, or washed itself into hydraulic lifters clogging them up 
is a question that I didn't want to find out the answer to the hard way.

If you think (or wonder if) your engine is full of goo, drop the pan 
and clean it out. The oil pan is designed to be a sump. Before 
detergent oils, part of routine maintenance was to remove it and clean 
it out at specified intervals. This is a good idea to do on older cars 
since we seldom know what (if anything) had been done over the years to 
maintain our old cars.

the motor is NOT the best thing to do, especially if its a HIGH MILAGE 
motor
since you could possibly wind up with a motor that is a LOT noiser than 
it was
to begin with!
Has anyone had first-hand experience with using MMO or ATF in the 
engine and
what was the result???
I realize that neither is a real 'fix it' for a engine that has real 
problems,
but does either of these (MMO or ATF) do the same thing? or are they 
for
different symptoms?
