I bought my '58 in April of 2004, I think, for $500
(I think again). I've wanted this particular car since I was in high
school (Class of '82) and watched from afar as it sat. It was literally a
dream come true to get it. I'm still excited when I think about
it.
Now I have the Imperial in storage and don't
expect to be able to work on it any time soon. These days I'm all
about building my career, raising young kids, stewarding my marriage, helping my
aging parents and all of the stuff that comes along with those things.
However, the day will come when I'll be able to work on the Imperial, get it
back on the road and spend the years thereafter enjoying it and spiffing it
up. That day may come in a year or ten. I don't really
care. In the meantime, I already have my dreamcar, and am very confident
that I'll be driving it one day.
I've had other "old" cars at various times in my
life, all solid drivers. These days I have a '69 Electra convertible
(which is for sale, by the way). I'll probably buy something else before I
get to the Imperial. I like my other cars, but I love my
Imperial.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that for some of
us, owning Imperials has nothing to do with time or how much work and
money it might take to keep them on the road. Instead, the whole process
is the experience we seek, not just the final result.
