Hi Tim,

I would suggest using a stock muffler and a stock resonator.  Tell the shop that you use that you want the car to be Imperial QUIET, and they should be able to supply the appropriate muffler and resonator.

The original exhaust setup is 2 1/2 inch pipe from the Y-pipe back to the muffler, and then 2 1/4 inch pipe from the muffler back to the resonator.  I would suggest you stay with this configuration.

Unless the Y-pipe is leaking, there's no reason to replace it.  Of course, if you decide you want to go with dual exhaust, you won't need the Y-pipe any more, but be sure the shop examines the car closely to make sure that there won't be any clearance issues with dual exhaust.  And keep the Y-pipe; you may need it later, or another Imperial owner might be interested in purchasing it.

Also, before going to Meineke or any chain shop, check with a couple of locally owned shops.  You may find higher quality at a lower price.

Best luck!

Elijah
