Re: IML: electronic wire WOES & questions

I used a Pertronix I on a 66 383 with no problems for many years. More recently I tried to install a Pertronix II on the 69 440 in LeBaron. It would run, but I could not get it to run correctly.

After trying everything I could, I got a refund for the Pertronix II and purchased a complete Mopar electronic conversion with a new distributor and orange ECU. This runs perfectly.

I think that I may have done something "bad" to the original distributor when I installed the under the cap unit. I do not know.
Also, I believe that the newer units (Pertronix II) are more sensitive to voltage than older ones (Pertronix I).
Do not overlook the condition of the distributor.

I put on the after market under the cap conversion on
my 63 Imp and seem to have it messed up. The car had
not ran in a while so maybe some else is going on?
1. The regulator was smoking- so I took the wire off
2. The car would stop running the key was not turned
to the START position, ran a jumper to the POS post
and it kept running. (could be a dead coil?)
3. Both the battery and the coil were getting HOT
