Hey Mike:
I struggled with that issue when I bought a non Mopar
convertible a few years ago. I saw cars at shows with insterted stereo
speaker "humps" placed over the driveshaft bulge between the front seats.
You know how you can buy accessories that fit over the drive-shaft hump on the
floor? These were little stereo systems with speakers on each side that
just rested on the hump and plugged into the cigarette lighter.
It seemed like a great solution. The problem was, I
looked high and low and couldn't find one. Some particular manfacturer had
obviously made them for a time, because I saw several of the same model, but I
couldn't unearth the source. I saw some custom-made ones that were kind of
cool, but instead of taking the time to craft one I bought a set of powerful
portable speakers for my iPod and just opened them up on the front seat whenever
I drove the car. That worked well, though I still would have preferred something
more stable.
It was a way to get instant music without cutting the
car. It also forced me into the iPod age, which was kind of
violent for me but necessary! I still have some vinyl around
here! I love my iPod.
Good luck!
