I just had my sending unit rebuilt by a guy in Ohio.  Found him in Hemmings. 
I don't remember the name, but apparently it's not rocket science  Cost me 
about $100 and it came back looking new.  One day turnaround on the repair. 
I dropped the tank one weekend, sent the sender out and installed it the 
next weekend.
