Re: IML: Front End Height '60 Imperial

The fact that the car appears to be level is good news. 1960 Imperial is suppose to be slightly higher in the front than the back, but overall is suppose to be rather low to the ground. It is a low and wide automobile. I wouldn't raise the front suspension 5 inches. If you feel that you need to raise it, maybe two or two and a half inches max. I am beginning to think that it has been this way all along. Could you have some how become accustomed to seeing it sitting up on jack stands, making it look low once on the ground, even though nothing has changed?

I am still concerned about the "bottoming out" feeling that you mentioned. Can you send me a picture of your car from the side? Seeing the profile would help me out a lot. Send it to randalpark@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks!

Paul W.

Well Paul,

There is no squeeking at all, actually the car drives and handles very well.  It is only that the front is too close to the street, I would like to have it set 4 or 5 inch higher.

Allthough I must admit that the nose is NOT angled down to the street. The car seems prettty level to me, it is just as if the total car has been lowered..

One memory crossed my mind, could this situ be caused by the tyres that were put on the car by the previous owner??

It are radials and the dimensions are 235/70 R15.
I don't know how this compares to the original tyres that were used in the sixties?

This is in reference to the front suspension on a '60 Imperial. There
should be no "bottoming out" sensation what so ever. It is possible
that the torsion bars need to be adjusted, or it is also possible that
the car needs front suspension repair work. If there is an squeeking
coming from the front of the car, the repair work is necessary for sure.

Hi Paul,

The car feels right on the road, but bottoms out really easily on
heavy
bumps..

That's not good. If it's bottoming out, than you have some sort
of problem.
