As I recall from previous postings and my
own queries on the subject when my '60 transmission needed a rebuild last
year, the newer (post '61) aluminum bodied transmission will NOT mate to the
1960 engine.
All the functions on the 1962 are the same
as the 1960: push-button shift, tail shaft mounted parking brake, etc.
There seem to have been a few internal changes but I'm not the transmission
expert others here are to say what they were....beyond the steel vs. aluminum
housing. However external functions are the same.
I know you didn't want to hear it, but
rebuilding your 1960 transmission shouldn't be too terrible a task. The
trick, as you noted, is to find a shop that can do it. The parts are
readily available, but sometimes the 1960 parts take a little extra digging to
find. The local guy I found was able to get the job done within a few
days, including ordering the parts, and I had some major components that were
worn out.
Just keep calling around, hopefully you
are in a part of the world that has more than a couple transmission
shops.

Will this transmission mate to a 1960 413? Will the 1960 starter
work with the 62 or will I have to use the newer starter?
Any information will be helpful.
Thanks, Bryan.
