Re: IML: Das Awkscht Fesch in Pennsylvania in August

I have been going to Das Awkscht Fescht since its inception in 1964.  I missed one show in 1995.  My dad took my brother and me to the first one when I was 10 years old, and have been going there since.  When I got a little older, I rode my bike to the show.  It is pre-registration only, and I think the deadline was July 1. It's a 3-day event, with lots of things to see and do. Friday has less cars than Saturday and Sunday, but in the evening there is a live band playing.  Friday night "Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods" perform 50s and 60s music from 7:30 - 10:30 PM at the bandshell. Saturday is the big day. They park the cars in long rows but not separated by marque. There are usually about 1300 cars there on Saturday. The Macungie Band will present a concert Saturday afternoon.  There is a huge fireworks display Saturday night around 9:30. Sunday is another big day, with about 1200 cars again.  On Sunday the cars are separated by club or marque, so if you don't want to look at hundreds of Mustangs or 57 Bel Airs, you just don't go to that area. Most of the Chrysler products will be together. This show draws cars from across the USA and Canada. Also, on Saturday there is a toy show & swap meet across the street at the middle school.  They have plenty of free parking and free shuttle busses continuously until about 6:00 PM each day. There is food available and the swimming pool is open. The best food is served in the basement of the Hall. There is a car corral on the grounds all three days. There are vendors there all three days. The vendor field is not quite as jammed full as it used to be, but is still a good variety of stuff.  A few years ago, the state revenue people came in unanounced and checked vendors for permits and tax forms.  That kinda put a damper on the vendors. There is a playground for the kiddies, and some large craft tents and pavilions for those interested in that sort of thing. Each day, participants receive a participant's award and a brass dash plaque.  Some pretty neat stuff, worth more than the cost of registration. The Post Office has a stand set up and will put a special stamp on you mail commemorating the event. You will see some pretty unusual cars, rare cars, one of a kind cars, and the run of the mill cars, too.  Each one has a story, and you will get the story if you ask. There are three things you should always bring to Das Awkscht Fescht besides your car; lawn chairs, sunscreen, and an umbrella.
You will see a proporsional amount of Imperials there. Mine, for one.
Hope to see you all there.  I'll have the Imperial there Friday night, and both cars there Saturday and Sunday.

Is anyone going to this? And is it worth it? The BIG question
is - HAS ANY ONE GONE TO THIS BEFORE (and were there Imperials
there then)?

Æyn
