IML: 1971 Imperial floor mounted cassette player

When I got my '71 Imperial the cassette worked for about 3 tapes.  Now it 
doesn't.  I have been told it is the "band" inside.  I have tried to take it 
apart & see but - no idea how it comes apart - but did find out radio won't 
work if it is not plugged in.  Can anyone direct me as to how to get inside
