If you install a pre-cut and molded carpet, I would only use a few dots of glue to ease up installation, but keep it unglued if possible at all. You never know if you'll have to remove the carpet for some wiring job, rust removal (maybe not applicable where you live, but here its a real issue), etc.

If you use some piece of carpet from a store and cut it to fit, then you might need more glue, depending on the carpet material you're using.
