Re: IML: matching engine numbers

Hi All...I am a bit confused here (not hard to do these days! :-).......) regarding engine numbering. I thought i had been told that up till 1968 the Imperial engines had 'casting' numbers on them starting about 1958 (???)....then, after '68 VIN's were stamped onto the engines. I do agree that unless you are a purist-collector (and there's certainly NOTHING wrong with this!) the matching numbers thing doesn't mean you have a butched Imperial!!! If I remember right, it was more the 'norm' back in the 70's-80's to just yank out and replace a motor instead of removing and then bebuilding that same motor......whether way or another is the best procedure is, I am sure, based on $$$$$ as well as the conditions of both the original and the replacement engine that's available.
....either way, I think if your Imperial is running great, doesn't leak and along with purring like a kitten (or growling like a big cat!) then you are a lucky guy/gal and I hope you enjoy your Imperial like I do mine!!
