Re: IML: Interior paint sources/1966 Crown

Jim,

I'm currently working on the interior of another marque and just refreshed the dashpad and front of the instrument panel.  I used a company in PA, Color-Plus. It's on the net at http://www.colorplus.com/  The owner, Joanne Price, matched the color of the dash perfectly (from a small sample I sent (that I had taken from the underside of the ash receiver door).  Looks like NEW, no kidding.  Joanne gave me a little tip that really works well.  Just prior to applying the leather/vinyl dye, wipe down a 2'x'2 area with a cloth lightly moistened with lacquer thinner.  It really helps the dye to adhere to the vinyl.

I'm also recoloring the leather and vinyl door panels on that particular car and was going to have the interior garnish molding color made up in a rattle can.  As a test, I lightly sanded one of the metal moldings with 400 grit paper and cleaned off the dust.  Then I applied the dye from the seats and doors and waited to see how it adhered.  Worked like a CHARM!  I put a second coat on and moved on to the next piece.  The dye has now cured on the metal and the bond appears to holding just fine.  I've wiped it down (another test) with a mild cleaner and no dye came off whatsoever.  Now my garnish moldings match my the rest of the interior perfectly and I didn't have to pay more to have the color specially mixed.

Best of luck and if you contact Joanne, tell her I sent you!  She's a great person, eager to please and will diligently work to get your color matched perfectly!

Best,

Hi all -

Can anyone point me in the right direction for matching paint (red) for the metal mouldings that are at the base of the windshield and radio/ac grilles in my dash on my 66 Crown convertible?
I also have a blue dash pad that is perfect - no sags or shrinking - that I would like to have colored red so I can replace the current one. Would one of the dashboard restoration resources on the website do the color change?

Thank You,

Jim
