Re: IML: 1983 EFI "Fuel Dumping"

Bill:

Refer to the earlier comments made regarding a proper air cleaner seal.  If the cover is not sealing the air for the engine will come through the cover and bypass the meter. This results in an incorrect reading at the air flow meter.  Remove the air cleaner element then tighten the wing nut down and see if that corrects the problem..

Also the EFI is critical to good electronic connections.  In an earlier post I suggested a computer change.  Perhaps it would be well to carefully clean the electrical connections to the  computer and the air flow meter before you invest in hardware.  Use an electronic contact cleaner and a small brush to make sure all connections are clean and tight.  The probability that this is the problem is not great but it is an inexpensive fix that can be tried first.

Dick Benjamin is our trouble shooting guru on these systems but I don't know if he is available at this time.

Good luck.  If I can be of  any help let me know.
