Re: IML: +++ CHRYSLER LIMOUSINES +++Trans-axles

I would suspect city driving, with many up-shifts, down shifts, OD on, OD off, more sharp turns etc. could lead to early failure. When I'm in heavy traffic or city conditions, I turn off the OD. We have many FWD cars in Fl. that have high mileage, but spend more time in high gear, going striate on very good roads. Just another thought, Dave.

My wife has a 02 Chrysler 300 with 31,000 miles and she recently heard, will not see 100,000 miles.
I wonder if she would drive my 61 LeBaron every day like before? hummm. Nope, she said it is too big! I get to drive it all by myself!!! hehehe

more accurately, the 2.6 Mitsubishi/Chrysler engine didn't have timing chains, it had a timing belt w/ a single overhead cam.   It also had a front mounted oil pump with a sproket mounted to it that via a chain spun a counterbalance shaft that removed poor harmonics of a very large 4 cylinder engine cheaper than casting a counterbalanced heavier crankshaft.

The one I overhauled in a Chrysler minivan had overheated due to loss of coolant, which warped the head, galling the camshaft in its bearings and snapping it in 2.  I poignantly recall/remember the design flaws of those engines.  Later, I rebuilt the transaxle on the same vehicle, transaxles seem to be another soft-spot in 80's-90's Chrysler engineering.  I have yet to see one make it over the 130K mark w/o needing some kind of repair or patch up job.

JUST BE AWARE that the 2.6 Chrysler/Mitsubishi engine was a piece
of junk and had to have 4 timimg chains to try to compensate for
its upper head oil pressure flaw. Fortunately, it was not an
Imperial. I had a 1985 New Yorker which was loaded to the hilt,
but the engines and aluminium heads were junk.
