Valve cover gaskets are available any way you want them. With cork, I use modern sealer on the valve cover side (after thorough cleaning of the valve cover) to hold them in. On installation, I tighten the bolts in an alternating pattern with the proper amount of torque. I think the spec is 10 or 15 pounds. Over tightening will ruin the gaskets and break the seal.

In a previous email I mentioned that there was water in my oil. It turns out that the heads were very slightly warped. so I am assuming that water escaped around the gasket without
