California's inane old car laws

Nearly all states can access each other's records. And thank god for that,
since it used to be OK for manufacturers to ship Lemon Law buybacks to other
states and sell 'em at auction. Georgia was among the last not to check,
which means don't buy a car at auction in GA!

But even within CA, if you brought the car back in, they'd recognize the VIN
as an "ecoscrap" car. It's a sick program... I think of the pristine cars
I've seen being gutted at the local Pick-a-Parts because the owner didn't
think it was worth making the car pass Smog Check. My '78 NYB passes the CA
smog test like it's a new car, and it's got the 400, which was not even
available in CA when it was new.
