Cold cranky amps 65

Once again I am here, hat in hand.
I cant figure this one out.

I can jump start like a charm then immediately start up again after re
charging the battery but cant keep it charged (after shutting down) for more
than several hours for another startup.

Nothing is running and everything is shut off.

I put a new alternator in, cleaned and secured the bat cables.

Battery is a good make, about 3 months old.

It began about the time I fixed the "alternator" gage in the dash (it was
leaning forward and needed to be set in place again) which now works and
remains pointed almost motionless to the center.

Would the voltage regulator (if busted) have anything to do with the
symptoms? To me this doesn't seem so.

Would a short cause this? (please no!)

The lights, radio and wipers all slow or dim at stop lights even with a new
alternator.

I am learning but still clueless with electrical stuff man!
Id really appreciate anyone's help.
