I will answer to you earlier on the compression test if nobody else does, but it seems that your block is healthy. You could still have leakage from the valves, and the compression test will tell. As for the timing, if you don't have a timing light, you can just advance a hair and see what happens. My guess is performance will improve. Keep on advancing till you hear knock at WOT, then back off a hair. In order to advance timing, loosen the distributor bolt (the bolt above the distributor, its hard to reach without a distributor wrench, but its doable, 1/2" size on my 68) and rotate the distributor clockwise. Rotate it very small amount at a time, drive the car, then advance some more.... When you start hearing knock, turn it back counterclockwise and leave it there... D^2
