Has anyone had a backyard conversion with working mpg readout, or do you need the conversion dash cluster to have the fuel flow meter work? I am surprised there isn't a reliable substitute. My FWD mopars all had this feature & I never had any problems. They are all EFI, but I don't know why that should matter much. >From: "Dick Benjamin" <DickB@xxxxxxxxx> >Reply-To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx >To: <mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Subject: Re: IML: re 81 fuel flow meter / mpg readout >Date: Thu, 7 Mar 2002 09:02:01 -0800 > >A minor correction to this post: The factory supplied conversion kit DID >include a fuel flow meter in the line from the (ugh, how primitive!) >mechanical fuel pump to the (ditto!) carburetor to supply the information >to >the digital MPG readout, but these seldom work for long. > >Dick Benjamin >----- Original Message ----- >From: mark ollerton <imperialboy@xxxxxxxxx> >To: <mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Sent: Wednesday, March 06, 2002 11:23 PM >Subject: IML: re 81 fuel flow meter / mpg readout > > > > hi bob, > > when a fuel injected 81-83 is converted to carb you > > lose the mpg,& fuel range to empty display readouts. > > this is because there is no longer the fuel injection > > computer to measure all this.(basically- i know theres > > more to it than that but i don't think its interesting > > enough to go into any more detail!) > > you do retain the readout for amount of fuel in the > > tank. > > one of my 78 nybs had an aftermarket computer added > > that did give instant/average mpg. i'd love to know if > > something like that could be added to an 81-83 imp so > > it would give back the mpg readout. > > any body know of such a thing? > > mark victoria & vancouver bc canada > > 81 imp > > 78 salon > > > >
