Bob H. a.k.a. impparts@gpcom.net

I've very sorry that you had a bad experience with Bob Hoffmeister.  I've had exactly the opposite experience on several occasions and i know of many others who share very positive experiences.  I suggest you take up your problem with him directly because I'd be AMAZED if he did not make it right.  Of course, there are two sides to every story and we only know yours.  Who knows, you could have pi--ed him off so much he actually DID look for the worst possible part...

Regarding his posting to the IML, I don't see that as a particular problem either as it reminds people of where to go for 'stuff'.  There is not a week goes by that we don't get half a dozen '..where can I find...' posts.  The more people realize that Bob, Murray Park, and Lowell Howe have this 'stuff' the better off everyone is.  So, IMHO, this is not a big deal.  I'm just thankful that our vendors take the time and energy to save this stuff that we love and need.

Dear Fellow Imperialists,
I have politely asked this commercial vendor to make his business
correspondence to IML members privately and directly (not through the
list) but he doesn't seem to care about the rest of us. At first it was
probably because he was new to computers & e-mail, but he has been on
the IML long enough to have figured it out. Many people have explained
how to extract the original sender's address from a post for a direct
reply. Though I am sure that many of you have found him a good source,
I had a poor experience with him some time ago and I am sure that he has
forgotten - but I have not.

This was maybe five or six years ago, long before the IML. I had
just gotten my 1966 Crown convertible and needed some parts. I found
his ad in Hemmings Motor News. One of the things that I needed was an
air filter holder. Though I thought that his price was high I sent
payment. When the par t arrived it was incorrect (too tall, probably
from an earlier 413, not the 440). I called and left multiple messages
on his answering machine, also sent a few faxes, all long-distance & on
my nickel. He was terribly slow about calling back. Finally, after
many weeks he called and told me that this car parts thing was more of a
hobby than a job, and after the snow melted(!) he would get out there
and get another one for me. Some months later (perhaps four or five
months from when I had originally sent the money), another air filter
holder arrived. It was the correct one - but had a series of large
holes drilled in it all the way around! Perhaps this helps with
airflow, but it's not original - or what I had a right to expect. Then,
on top of that I got to pay the return postage for the incorrect part!
I do not consider this the actions of a reputable vendor, and his lack
of consideration on the IML follows suit.

Say what you will about any other vendor, but in my book THIS guy is
one to be avoided! Even some of the overpriced one at least supplied
what was ordered in reasonable condition. This guy had to have looked
hard for the WORST possible part to send to me!
