1954 Crown Imperial Limo & Thoughts on a Restoration

Jim,
I am not interested in this car as I don't have the time or resources to do
it justice. It would be a nice one to put back on the road.It certainly
doesn't hit me as a parts car if there were only 77 built. The early
fifties cars certainly were not the best Chrysler ever produced but they
are a part of Chrysler history. Stodgy, certainly not particularly sporty,
not at all, just to appeal to the average American. They were boxy, maybe
even ugly, but they were what Chrysler produced.
They were in keeping with the times. Fords of the era are called Shoe Box
Fords. There was a common theme among cars at the time and Chrysler towed
the line.

> Problems & costs I see in restoring the 54 would be the rust & body
>work. Painting. Interior. Engine rebuild and machine shop expenses.
>Transmission(?) Every seal. ( Eng. Axle, Transmission etc.) Door trunk
>& window seals. Complete new wiring harness.

Can you think of any other negatives to say about this car? Best I
remember, the guy was pretty honest in his evaluation. He wasn't trying to
sell it without being honest and dishonesty happens in the hobby and on
ebay. Had I been selling it, I would have bought some cheapo used tires so
that it at least looked presentable. I wouldn't be dishonest about it but I
would have it looking a bit more presentable.

>bed & a pocket full of change to get it shipped. Rechrome, and the list
>goes on.
>If it is going to cost $40gs to restore it, this is chump change.

>College.

I'm 5'5" and my son is out of college. If I chose to buy this car, your
analysis wouldn't sway me. I am just not interested in this type of car.

Too bad you have to be so negative about a really neat car.

You might rethink your judgmental attitude about the cars for sale, Jim.
Just because you don't think it is worth fooling with doesn't mean someone
else has the same attitude. Your words might keep someone from saving a
really savable car.

>That's All Folks
>Danno

I know you were just contributing your two cents worth, but you were pretty
negative about a car that I think should be saved.
