Welcome to the group. I assure you that the buyer of a new luxury car in
1955 would not have tolerated electrical problems with his new car - the
point being that your car was perfect when new, so let's set about finding
what the problems are now, and fix them one by one, until it is back to
performing the way an Imperial should.
I have many 6 volt cars, they all operate just the way they should.
