hi,,my GMs and fords do it the same way,,if your charging wire is getting hot ,you got somthing pulling to much power,,but it also helps to make sure all the connectors are very tight including the amp gague,,a lose connection will get hot in a hurry,,.on 59 imperials the charge wire is read megnaticly?and dose not connect to the gague at all so thee is no problem there possible from heat or power,,.not shure about 58, 57,,.my 61 is direct connected and requires more attention,,making shure its tight,,.the 80 amp alt. doesnt bother it at all,,,.rick
