Mid fifties Chebbies are popular and well known even with people who
aren't into old cars. Imperials, on the other hand are not well known and
never that popular. On top of that the Imperial is really an orphan car,
much like a Hudson or DeSoto, with no decendents. In short it is a matter of
supply and demand which is trigered by what people are nostalgic about. Even
with G.M's other makes from the same era, that are supposed to be higher
end, most sell for fewer dollars then a Chebby.
I think why people scoff at the price of this 55' Imperial is that fact
that it is percieved as being misrepresented. They are trying to sell the
car as an unrestored original when it is obvious that it was restored and
uncorrectly so.
As far as I am concerned if they want $30,000 for it, and no one is will to
pay that, then the market has spoken. Hearsay about sale values is one thing
but this factual. It may not be rational, or logical, but nostalgia never
is.
