No, the radials were not introduced in the US market till way later. Why do
you need to know of the wheel patern in order to go to radial tires. You can
use the original wheels with radial tires. Some hub-cup clicking noises have
been reported that are blamed on the radials, but it does not happen to all
cars. My Sedan for example does it some times, while my LeBaron does not
(personally, I think it has to do withthe condition of the hub cups as well).
Anyways, the extra safety and economy you get from the radials is far more
important that some potential clicking noises...
