Actually Di-Noc and copy-cat varieties found their way on exterior panels in the late 40's. To the best of my knowledge, none of this type of product was used on interior dash and moldings during that period. There is no real mystique in refinishing metal dash & moldings to make them look like the woodgrained originals. It does take practice but can be done. There is a book I highly recommend to those who want to do it right. Woodgraining - a new approach - by Bob Dunham. In it he explains how to get the right original base coat color, do the actual graining with printers ink using a variety of applicators, and applying the proper top coat. I can tell you from experience the results are show quality.
