I have many 6 volt cars and have had little trouble finding bulbs for them. I don't know where you live, but out in California, Autozone and NAPA stores, for two examples, can usually supply the bulbs I need. When you do find them, buy enough for spares, as they are going to be unavailable some day. There is no reason to convert a well maintained 6 volt car to 12 volts, unless you want to add modern electronic equipment to it.
