Separate dealerships vs. Separate marque

My 2 cents:
To treat the Imperial as a completely separate marque and sell it at
dealerships that don't sell Chryslers would have negated any impact the
Imperial would have had on other mopar sales. To sell an Imperial alongside
a New Yorker, you may denigrate the Imperial image, but they probably sold
tons of New Yorkers to people who thought they were "just as good, only
cheaper." We know better ;)
The whole point with Lexus was nobody was supposed to know that it was
really Toyota. Toyota cars do not gain anything from people's perception of
Lexus.
Also I never saw a Lincoln dealer that didn't sell Mercury.

Brooklyn, New York, also home to automotive "super-mall" dealerships.
