AC Systems

Indeed the oil in an R 12 system is not compatible with the oil required in an
R134a system. R12 uses a mineral oil which needs to be purged from the entire
system if making a conversion to R134a. Furthermore, a cleaning solvent must
be used to clean the evaporator, condenser, and hoses if you plan on reusing
them. The drier needs to be replaced with one that has a compatible dissicant,
or it is possible to have your OEM drier refurbished with the proper dissicant
by one of several antique auto AC specialists in the nation. Other changes may
have to be made to the expansion valve as well (depending on your vintage).

If the system is overcharged, there will be too much torque required to
turn
the compressor, and either the clutch or the belt will fail, if
the
compressor itself doesn't fail.

However, the blower failure has
to be a separate problem, unless someone
unplugged a wire when fiddling with
the system. It is time to take the car
to someone who knows what he is
