Black Knob Mystery SOLVED!

A few weeks back I had posted a question about a strange black knob under the
dash of my '56 Sedan. (Paul - this is the fuzzy picture I sent you.)

Suggestions for it's purpose centered on a trailer brake system or the
windshield washer. Originally I had discounted both ideas as the car doesn't
have a
trailer hitch and does have the floor mounted, foot operated washer pump.
However, with the arrival yesterday of another box of spare parts for the car
from the previous owner, the mystery has been solved!

Included in the box was the instruction sheet for the mounting of a Tryco
replacement washer pump system and sure enough the black knob was part of that
system. It would appear that somewhere during the car's life, the foot mounted
pump died and the owner decided to bypass it completely with this aftermarket
system rather than replace or repair it.

Thanks for all the input and congrats to those who got it right!
