Even at This Late Date

My thinking is that with the value of some of those cars, the owners might be trying to be EXTRA careful. I know if I had $50- 75K in one of my cars, I'd probably be afraid to drive it at all for fear something bad might happen.

Both my 68's have larger than stock cam, which means a loss of low end torque
and off idle throttle response.  The benefit is of course a bit more mid range
and especially upper range torque.  For me, its worth the compromise.

I can't see how at least keeping up with highway traffic puts their "investment"
at risk.

That's not necessarily a disadvantage.  We take advantage of the common person's
ignorance to enjoy a super high quality vehicle for little money.  Yes, there
are the draw backs (like derbys and all).

I do not dislike the A-bodies and B-bodies (I do like the B's better).  They are
nice cars for what they are: a unique type of car that is neat but rather
impractical.  The A-bodies seem a bit overpowered and out of balance when
equipped with the big blocks.  I see the Imps as overall superior cars, with
better balance, and far more capable for long distance high speed driving.
They were more sofisticated both in terms of design and materials, that's why
they were about twice the price when new.  Their "value" is currently lower,
because they are not as "fashionable".
