You may be right Peter. There has been a big push for retro-styling and, as you
suggest in names such as the 300M. Someone else pointed out, though, that since
no one remembers the name Imperial, Chrysler would have no reason to bring it
back.
At first I thought he was wrong about no one remembering the name, but
actually, when I drive my Imperials I am constantly bombarded with questions
like "What is an Imperial?". My usual response is "You're looking at one, the
best cars from Chrysler at the time". Very few people remember them unless a
family member had one or they drove one themselves, even in the old car
community.
If the company brought back the name they would have to do it with the intent
of making a big profit. The name never sold a lot of cars before, so why would
that be any different now. Part of the mystic of the 300 letter series was that
it was known as a limited production performance car. Also, the 300 non-letter
series nameplate was very successful on its own. This was really never the case
for the Imperial. It's "limited production" was mostly due to its lack of
success in the marketplace.
Time will tell, but I think it would be very surprising for them to bring back
the name Imperial.
