GM's Saginaw Steering division built the energy absorbing steering columns, the small reservoir power steering pumps, the Tilt-A-Scope columns, and probably a few other steering system hard parts for Chrysler back then. The Saginaw power steering pumps look just like what GM was using back then, which started in about '67 as the older and larger Federal pump was phased out.
One KEY thing, though . . . they were built to Chrysler specs (except probably for the pumps). On my '80 Newport, the exterior of the steering column bowl (where the ignition key cylinder is) looks exactly like what GM used on their cars back then, but the internal gurts are totally different. I found that out when I had to replace a dimmer switch in the column and wanted to buy the less expensive GM items (that I have ready access to at the OEM level), but the items in the Chrysler column were all different and specific to Chrysler columns only.
Remember too, that some things GM did back then were considered the best available parts in those segments.
