It does have an ABS pump and that's probably what you hear. It's necessary because the ABS operates at higher pressure than the "normal" brakes. However, it's also a sign the pump is having trouble keeping pressure. The pump is covered by a lifetime warranty, if its the Bendix one, but they probably won't consider it a problem until the ABS and brake warning lights are on.
