'59 continuing saga, must be a test

Title:
Hi,
It seems like there is some bearing in the steering column that has broken or given way near the top of the column, does anyone know about this?
Yes, ther's a bearing at the upper end of the column jacket. If i remember well it is press fitted.
. One of the mechanics came out and after it cooled down added some water only to find it pouring out under the left side exhaust manifold. This definitely did not look good to me.
I had a similar problem on my '57 : the exhaust manifold studs were old and as they come out in the water jacket (don't know if  it's the same on '59 cars) , the coolant could pour outside.
