Re:  Jesus straps -- Elijah gave a good explanation.  Here's mine -- these
are the straps you grab on to when centrifugal force pushes you away from
the door as the driver takes a sharp turn and you holler, "Oh, Jesus!"  And
it's easier to spell than Lavalier.
