Radiator Fan Malfunction?

Hi!
Over the past weekend, I noticed that when I would turn off the engine, the
electric radiator fans would stay on. The first time it did it, I thought it
was odd but I didn't pay much attention.
However, yesterday evening, I went to play a hockey game. Like it did over
the weekend, when I turned off the engine, I could still hear the fans. I
went in and played my game. But when I came back, roughly 2 hours later, the
fans were still on! That got me worried that they would drain the battery. I
drove home, about 20 minutes, but this time, when I turned off the engine,
the fans stopped. Today, I went to the office. The fans stayed on but about
an hour later, I went to check it out and the fans had stopped.
So, there is something odd going on. I think that it might be some kind of
relay or switch but I was wondering if anybody had a first hand experience
with that kind of problem. I already have an appointment this coming
Thursday with my friendly mechanic, but if it was a quick fix, I would avoid
a 40 minutes drive to get there, and another 40 minutes to come back.
This is happening on my Imperial 1993, BTW.
Thoughts? Comments? Any insight is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
-Laurent.
