Re: IML: poor man's tranny fluid change

On cars with external cooling lines, like to a radiator or special
transmission cooler, it is easy to do a fluid change job just like the $75
guys do. It takes at least 2 people, and a container large enough to hold
the whole charge of fluid in the transmission. You need a male and female
fitting that fits the cooling line, and a couple pieces of hose or tubing to
reach from the fittings to the container. Get enough fluid to completely
fill the transmission, plus a couple quarts. Disconnect one fitting, it
doesn't matter which one, and install your hoses with the ends into the
container. remove the dipstick, and get several cans of your replacement
fulid ready to go. You will want a funnel that fits inside the filler neck.
One guy sits inside, and runs the ignition switch. One guy keeps the fresh
fluid going into the funnel, and watches the color of the fluid coming out
of the hose. When he sees clean fluid coming out, you shut off the engine,
button everything up, and top off the transmission.
