If you can get a look at the transmission, check for numbers/letters stamped
(not cast) into the transmssion case on the driver's side just above the
bottom pan.  One of the sets of numbers will be the part number while the
others will identify the plant and model year ..

I am sure that the transmission is an A-727 which means it was built in the
1962 to 1965 period.  If it has a transmission brake, it is a 1962 unit from
a Dodge 880, Chrysler or Imperial (last year for Lockheed brakes).  If it
does not have a transmission brake, it is a 1963-65 unit or a 1962 from a
Plymouth or Dodge Dart/Polara.

The transmission brake model will not have a park sprag while the
non-transmission brake model will.

My 1955 sedan has a torqueflite 3 speed in it with the buttons in the lower
dash. Unfortunately the guys that did it are long gone. It is an aluminimu
case. How can I determine the year of the transmission?
