IML: Digital radio/81 Imperial Help

Roland-

I have done the very same thing you are attempting. I was using an ETR from an 86 Fifth Ave which had two connectors on the back...each with seven pins if I recall corectly. The problem is speaker grounding; the later model ETR's had separate ground wires for each speaker.

I bought an interface from Crutchfield- a PacAudio OEM-2 which can bridge lots of interface problems. It worked fine but I wasn't happy with the ETR sound quality.

My Imperial now has a Pioneer large face radio with new speaker wires run along side the old ones to new speakers. I didn't cut any of the original wiring so I can revert if I want to but the sound quality is so good with the new system I don't think I ever will.

If you're interested in the OEM-2 interface contact me directly.
