Dave, Funny you should ask. Last weekend I had to rebuild the front brakes on our 61 Newport since they were pulling to the left. I thought I'd find grease on the brakes, but instead I found the left front shoes had cracked in several places. The shoes on the car didn't look old. Go figure. Good luck, Bruce Clough 61 Newport & Fury - Both 4-door HT(4 Doors 4 Fun...) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- After purchasing my 61 Newport last February, I rebuilt the entire brake system (Master Cylinder, all 6 wheel cylinders, new front shoes, and replaced 1 front brake line). The brakes worked ok afterward, although the pedal travel was a little more than I would like. Recently I discovered that one of the rear wheel cylinders was leaking, so I replaced it with a new one. Now, the front brakes seem to grab prematurly and lock up. Even after the pedal is released, I can still feel some reistance from the front end. The car never exhibited any of these symptoms prior to changing the rear cylinder, and I have not touched anything on the front brakes. Any thoughts or ideas? |
