Thank you to everyone who contributed to my question last week about CD ignition systems. I think I'm going to give that Pertronix unit a try. I like the elegance of its being contained wholly within the original distributor. But I'll always be on the lookout for an old Heath or KnightKit CD kit, just for nostalgia's sake. One last thought: I agree with several of you who promoted the Mopar Performance setups. There was a great suggestion in one of the Mopar magazines a few years back in this regard. They said to install the new Mopar distributor, leaving all the original wiring pretty much in place, but to carefully hide the new harness (as much as possible), taking it through a grommet in the firewall to just behind the glovebox. Then mount the ignition controller and new solid-state regulator there, which is a better place for them anyway -- away from the heat of the engine compartment. The result is that you get the look of originality, at least to the casual observer, but the improved performance and reduced maintenance of an electronic system. Oh, you gotta make sure to provide a good ground since you're not mounting to the firewall anymore. Cheers, Dan Davids Seattle |
