[FWDLK] Painting hood springs, colors in general?

course minez a 56 but I simply painted hood springs with spray can of epoxy
spray paint after a mist coat of primer. Just enuf paint to cover and not
run. Wire brushed em first then lacquer thinner wipedown. prior to priming.
My buddy asked me if I got new springs of course. Paintz still tight after 5
years, no flaking off.
COLORS?
Looking at several underhood photos prerepaint its hard to tell. Seems like
I have seen silver too. A spare set of springs with brackets (from N.D.) the
springs are evidently
black, with the brackets either galvanized or wash plated (like the bumpers,
grilles, headlights on the old Structo toys). To reproduce the wash plated
pseudo brightwork, I use spray can aluminum BUT not sprayed on, wiped on with
a cotton cloth. This allows bright but not that glitzy spray can look. After
15 min a coat or two of clear will protect the aluminum bright finish.
BUT
Isn't Chryco the outfit that was notorious for mid year and 'we got some extra
_____ so lets use it up' action???? Unless U have a production color photo of
underhood it is simply an educated guess unless one has access to some
experts manual? i.e. preproduction cars often were dolled up here and there
to show better in photos. Esp true with wheel colors? From what I recall on
the new Moparz I have owned around the Finned Friends era, wheelz where BLACK.
This was true on my 60 Valiant, 62 Savoy, 66 Cuda, used 63 Valiant, and dont
recall that dog of a car our 58 Plymouth 4dr stick 6. and I am sure my 55
Chrysler St.Regis had black wheels.....
As a non purist the wheels on my sport suburban have been black, medium
metallic green, sort of an orange when using full wheel covers-the color was a
neat accent/contrast with the seaspray green. Yep!
Xtra used wheels I got for the beast were black right from the salvage yard.
Anyone for 'Mag wheel gold?'
At least some of U are planning ahead for when the snows leave!
L.

trivia- cleaning out past issues of Plymouth Bulletin and WPC found that for
the P15 Plymouth the horn ring insignia had 3 different colors of backgrounds
due to 3 diff manufacturers of the insignia, the hood emblem had different
size ships and small letters USA for same reason, and so on. Likewise they
changed door locks midyear to different style. And oddball item that parking
light housings should be completely painted white including back, since they
were dipped in paint to finish!!! Correct- they aint FWD LOOK but they are
Chryco.
