[FWDLK] HELP! Pushbutton Auto Question

I've been trying to help my brother take the pushbutton automatic
out of his '60 Fury, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to get
the shift cable out of the transmission without dropping the valve
body. Is there a trick to getting it out, or does the valve body
need to come out? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
