Hello all, I personally doubt seriously that the 50's converts were ever
hardtops first, but since I wasn't there to see it myself, (and I have
learned that if I wasn't, to keep my mouth shut) I cannot say for sure. I
do however, believe the 50's cars were "true" convertibles, not so of this
cut-up 80's crap we all know about. As for the man who had a t-top Magnum
that never leaked, you must have led a charmed life, I worked at Chrysler
dealers in 78, and therefore attended many Chrysler schools, we were told
in a class on "water & wind leaks", that if there was only a "slow but
steady drip" in a t-top car, it was considered "normal" - "streams"
however, would require some work. I don't believe I ever saw a t-top car
that didn't leak some (had a Mirada that leaked like crazy, even after new
(espensive) weatherstripping was installed), not to mention the car felt
like it was two halves held together with silly putty. I have not had a
t-top car since. Best-looking way I ever saw to ruin a car.
